At Valor Conservatory of Dance, our Competition Team is about more than just trophies — it’s about passion, growth, and community. Our dancers range from ages 5–18 and train in a variety of styles, including ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, tap, and acro.
Being part of the Valor team means:
Auditions are held each summer for the upcoming season. Dancers are placed in groups that best fit their age, level, and readiness. Once placed, dancers commit to their groups for the year so teachers can finalize choreography and prepare for competition season.
We also offer private auditions for families moving to the area throughout the year, making sure every dancer has a chance to find their place at Valor.
While we celebrate wins, our true focus is on developing dancers who push themselves, encourage their teammates, and grow both on and off the stage. At Valor, we believe in turning fear into fire and doubt into drive — and we can’t wait to see where this season takes us!
What age do dancers have to be to join the team?
Our team is open to dancers ages 5–18. Placement is based on age, ability, and readiness.
How much of a time commitment is required?
Commitment depends on the number of competition dances a dancer is cast in. For example, a dancer placed in one group will have a lighter schedule, while a dancer cast in five routines will have a higher level of commitment with multiple rehearsals each week. All team members are also required to take the technique classes tied to their routines.
What styles of dance do competition dancers train in?
While choreography may vary year to year, all dancers train in ballet (our foundation), along with jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and acro.
What is the financial commitment?
Families can expect costs for classes, competition entry fees, costumes, conventions, and travel expenses. Tuition is paid monthly or by semester, and competition fees are billed separately. Payment deadlines must be met in order for dancers to remain eligible.
How many competitions does the team attend?
We attend several regional competitions each season, plus one national competition in the summer. Valor dancers may also participate in conventions and other performance opportunities throughout the year.
Do dancers have to re-audition every year?
Yes. Auditions are held each summer for group placement. This ensures dancers are placed in the right groups based on their growth and development.
Do you offer auditions outside of the summer?
Yes! We provide private auditions for families moving to the area, so new dancers can be evaluated and placed appropriately.
