Dress Code

Discount Dance Store

In our discount dance store, we have a list of all necessary dress code items. When you purchase from Discount Dance, you are helping support the studio. All ballet class colors are listed down below.

Ballet Dress Code


Leotard Colors by Level:

  • Tots Ballet: Light Pink
  • Level 1: Royal Blue
  • Level 2: Mulberry
  • Level 3: Red
  • Level 4: Navy
  • Level 5: Plum or Black

Tights:

  • Ballet pink tights are required for all levels.

Ballet Shoes:

  • Levels 3 and under: Leather ballet slippers in pink.
  • Levels 4 and up: Canvas ballet slippers in pink.

Hair:

  • Hair should be neatly secured in a bun. Short hair should be pinned back away from the face.

Skirts:

  • Skirts are allowed for all levels but must match the leotard color.

Jewelry:

  • No jewelry is allowed, except for small stud earrings.

Warm-Ups:

  • Form-fitting warm-up attire is allowed during warm-up but must be removed when instructed


Dress Code for All Other Classes


Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, and Acro:

  • Form-fitting dance wear such as leotards, unitards, or dance tops with leggings or dance shorts.
  • No baggy shirts or pants
  • Footwear: Jazz shoes for Jazz classes; foot undies or barefoot for Lyrical and Contemporary. Socks are allowed for Level 4/5 Contemporary classes. Barefoot for Acro.
  • Hair should be secured away from the face in a ponytail or bun.

Hip Hop:

  • Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows for movement (e.g., sweatpants, joggers, and t-shirts or tank tops). No jeans are allowed.
  • Clean sneakers that have not been worn outside.
  • Hair should be secured away from the face.

Tap:

  • Dance tops with leggings, dance pants, or shorts.
  • Tap shoes (black or tan as specified by the instructor).
  • Hair should be secured away from the face in a ponytail or bun.


Strength and Stretch:

  • Comfortable, form-fitting athletic wear such as leggings and tank tops or sports bras.
  • Barefoot or socks.
  • Hair should be secured away from the face.

Jewelry:

  • No jewelry allowed in any class except for small stud earrings.


Additional Notes:

  • All dancewear should be neat and free from logos or graphics that could be distracting.
  • Ensure all clothing allows for a full range of movement and proper visibility of body alignment.
  • Please label all personal items with the dancer's name.



Dress Code for Competitive Classes


Attire:

  • Dancers should wear tight-fitting clothing to allow for full visibility of body alignment and technique. Options include leotards, form-fitting tops, leggings, or dance shorts.


Footwear:

  • Appropriate footwear based on the dance style being rehearsed. Dancers should consult with the instructor if unsure.


Hair:

  • Hair must be secured away from the face in a bun or high ponytail to maintain a professional look and keep it from interfering with movements.


Jewelry:

  • No jewelry is allowed, except for small stud earrings.


Additional Notes:

  • Dancers are expected to come prepared with all necessary attire and accessories for each rehearsal.
  • Please label all personal items with the dancer's name.
