About Us

Why Valor?

Valor holds a special definition for our studio. Valor represents courage, bravery, strength of mind, strength, fearlessness, dauntlessness, and boldness. It is no surprise that in the dance world, there have been many issues regarding the acceptance of different body types and races. However, the dance world is becoming more aware and accepting of our differences every day. That is why here at Valor Conservatory of dance, we strive to make every dancer feel welcome and develop the confidence to go out into the world and put their best foot forward in everything they do. We also love encouraging our students to enter the dance world through master classes, competitions, conventions, intensives, and professional careers. This can be scary, but we know that through these experiences, our students can grow. Dance is not easy. It requires perseverance and valor, but it is made for anyone ready and wanting to try

Our Instructors

Roshelle Howard

Roshelle Howard began dancing at the age of four, training under Erin McKeever and Islay Dillon-Ogden. She trained at Trillium, where she joined the studio’s company and began performing soloist roles at 12. As a student, she attended prestigious summer intensives, including American Ballet Theater, Joffrey Ballet, Ballet Magnificat, Oregon Ballet Theater, Bolshoi Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and Sacramento Ballet.

While ballet was her primary focus, Roshelle also trained extensively in jazz, contemporary, Latin, and lyrical dance. She went on to dance professionally with multiple ballet companies, including Paradosi Ballet Company, where she performed for five years. Throughout her career, she danced numerous soloist and principal roles in both classical and contemporary works.

When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the industry, Roshelle shifted her focus to teaching. With over a decade of experience, she is passionate about mentoring young dancers, helping them build strong technique, confidence, and artistry. In 2019, she became certified in Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT), a specialized program designed to enhance strength and injury prevention.

Roshelle also holds a degree in Psychology, which deepens her understanding of student development and well-being. At Valor Conservatory of Dance, she is dedicated to providing high-quality training in a supportive and inclusive environment, inspiring dancers to grow both technically and artistically.

McKensi Holm-McKenzie

McKensi began studying dance at age three in Lakewood, WA. By age six she became a competitive dancer in the styles of ballet, lyrical, jazz, tap, and hip hop. By age ten she became a teacher’s assistant and by age fourteen she became an instructor. Her favorite styles of dance are ballet, pointe, jazz, and lyrical. Dance has always been her passion and continues to be as she cannot imagine her life without it.

Throughout her dance career, McKensi has participated in many community performances, studio recitals, and competitions where she earned various awards. One of her most successful awards she earned and participated in was the “All Star Dance Experience” in New York City where she took classes from famous choreographers including the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes. Aside from dance, she enjoys gaining new life experiences, looks forward to pursuing a career in social work, and loves spending time with her family.

Mariah Ogden

Mariah Ogden is a talented and versatile dancer with a passion for a wide range of styles, including jazz, ballet, hip-hop, lyrical, and tap, alongside a foundation in gymnastics. Her dance journey began at the young age of five, where she cultivated a love for movement and developed a strong technical foundation.

Starting at the young age of 12, Mariah demonstrated an exceptional work ethic and leadership ability by assisting in teaching dance and substituting classes, a responsibility that allowed her to share her knowledge and passion with younger dancers. She has always loved working with kids, finding joy in helping them grow, develop, and discover their own love for dance.

During high school, Mariah further showcased her leadership abilities as Dance Captain, guiding her team to a first-place win in the state for hip-hop. Her time as Dance Captain was a defining moment of her senior year and highlighted her capability to lead and perform at a high level.

Her competitive journey took her to various regional and national competitions, where she earned multiple awards and scholarships. Beyond competing, she has traveled across the country to immerse herself in diverse dance environments, taking classes at top-tier studios like Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles and Westlake Dance Center in Seattle.

In addition to her individual accomplishments, Mariah was a part of the dance group Westsiders, a hip hop team known for its innovation and skill. Through her experiences with the group and at various dance centers, she further expanded her dance knowledge and connections within the dance community.

Today, Mariah continues to nurture her passion for dance, whether through teaching, performing, or pushing herself to new heights in both creative expression and technical excellence. Her love for working with kids continues to shape her approach to teaching and mentoring, as she inspires the next generation of dancers.
